Peginterferon alfa-2b is a prescription medication used to prevent malignant melanoma (a kind of skin cancer) from coming back after it has been removed by surgery. It is also used to treat chronic hepatitis C. Peginterferon alfa-2b belongs to a group of drugs called interferons. Peginterferon alfa-2b treats hepatitis by activating the immune system to attack the hepatitis virus but the way it treats malignant melanoma is unknown.
