Citric acid/sodium citrate is a prescription medication used to make urine less acidic. Citric acid/sodium citrate is used to prevent metabolic acidosis and kidney stones.

It is a single product containing 2 medications: citric acid and sodium citrate.

Citric acid/sodium citrate belongs to a group of drugs called urinary alkalinizers. These help to/work by making the urine less acidic.

This medication comes in solution form and is taken up to 4 times a day and should be diluted with water or juice.

A common side effect of citric acid/sodium citrate is alkalosis in which the body fluids have excess base (alkali).
