If toning your abs was as simple as strapping a belt around your stomach, we'd all have six packs - wouldn't we? But as technology advances, so do miracle fitness products and such a device may actually exist. The Slendertone Ab Toning Belt, for example, claims to strengthen and tone your abdominal muscles, but only when it's paired with routine exercise and a low-calorie diet. Now, the Ab Toning Belt isn't for people struggling to shed extra weight, but rather for those who are looking to define their abdominal muscles. The belt claims to do that by sending small electrical impulses, which causes the muscles to contract and tighten. With the Ab Toning Belt, these electric signals are sent through medical gel pads that are pressed against the skin causing a tingling sensation to the core. Supposedly, your muscles experience the same type of contractions they do while doing crunches. According to the belt's directions, you should wear it for 40 minutes a day while simultaneously upping your cardio training to three 20-minute sessions a week, and eliminating all sweets and empty calories from your diet. As much as the Ab Toning Belt claims to give you the defined midsection you've always wanted, it's actually the supplemental cardio and diet plan that gives you the real results. Sure the electric signals may come in handy for someone who is undergoing physical therapy on their abdominal muscles, but other than that, the Ab Toning Belt has no concrete benefits. So instead of spending $125, you could always step up your training sessions with new abdominal exercises, like reverse twists and side jackknifes that target the obliques, or the muscles that start on the ribs and extend diagonally down the sides of your waist.
