Understanding Autoimmune Disorders

Common Signs and Symptoms

Autoimmune disorders can occur virtually anywhere in the body, and the signs and symptoms vary depending on the condition and location of the abnormal immune response. Multiple sclerosis occurs when the immune system targets cells in the brain, often leading to tremors and numbness in limbs, while inflammatory bowel disease manifests itself in the digestive tract causing abdominal pain and diarrhea. Despite the variety of autoimmune conditions, fatigue, malaise (general ill-feeling) and fever often occur. It is always a good idea to tell your doctor about recurring fevers that aren’t accompanied by other flu-like symptoms.
