Health Risks Seniors Should Be Aware Of

Flu

The flu normally produces only mild symptoms in most people, but that’s not necessarily true for young children or elderly adults. In 2010, respiratory infections from influenza and pneumonia were the seventh leading cause of death for people over the age of 65. Symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue and body aches and can often be confused for a common cold. Due to the increased potential of health complications stemming from influenza, it is highly recommended for high-risk populations such as seniors, people with HIV and cancer patients to receive an annual flu vaccine, as this is the best method to reduce flu risk.
