Coping with Spring Allergies

Seasonal Allergy Medications

The cells that are defending your body from pollen particles release histamines — chemicals that cause many symptoms of allergies, such as a runny nose or sneezing. Over-the-counter medications that contain antihistamines, like Claritin and Zyrtec, can help relieve the symptoms and make you feel better. However, these medicines may not get to the root of the problem — swollen sinuses. To treat this, you may need corticosteroids, which can be prescribed by an allergist. Again, speak to your doctor before taking any new medications.
