9 Easy Stretches to Relieve Back Pain

Stretches for Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a disease that can cause back pain. If you have this condition, the reason your back hurts is likely because the condition can cause some of the vertebrae in the spine to fuse together. This reduces flexibility and your ability to maintain good posture.

While there is no cure for ankylosing spondylitis, stretching — in addition to the correct medical treatments — may help patients regain good posture and flexibility. According to the Spondylitis Association of America, most patients report improvements after exercise.

Feeling a little discomfort or pain when first stretching is common in ankylosing spondylitis patients, but be sure not to overdo it. More isn’t always better — especially when you’re first starting out. Discuss any excessive pain or discomfort with your doctor.
