Choosing a Shave Cream: The Ingredients
One of the biggest offenders are parabens. These man-made preservatives are used in everything from shampoos to snack foods like candy, baked goods, and beef jerky // and researchers worry they could raise your risk of breast cancer // yes, men get breast cancer, too. While the Center for Disease Control has deemed parabens safe up to levels of 25 percent, and shaving creams containt AT MOST .8, not all experts are convinced enough testing has been done. If you want to play it safe while scientists sort this all out, then opt for an organic or all-natural product. These are created using less processed ingredients like plant-based compounds and essential oils. Don't be fooled by the name of the product either. It might be called "Organic Shaving Cream," but that can also mean it only contains traces of organic products. Instead, look for the USDA Organic seal because this guarantees a product is 95 to 100 percent organic. Also, for products without parabens, look for a label marking it paraben-free.
