Mary Tyler Moore to have Brain Surgery

Mary Tyler Moore: Brain tumor to be removed

(RxWiki News) Beloved television actress Mary Tyler Moore, is undergoing surgery to remove a tumor that is usually benign (not cancerous).

According to an article on People Magazine's website, Moore's spokeswoman, Alla Plotkin, said, "At the recommendation of her neurologist, who has been monitoring this for years, Mary decided to proceed with this fairly routine procedure."

Moore has a meningioma, a common, usually benign tumor that is seen in the lining of the brain. These are generally slow-growing tumors and usually remain in place unless they are causing a problem.

Larger tumors can cause various symptoms, including:

  • Headache
  • Weakness on one side
  • Seizures
  • Confusion
  • Personality and behavioral changes

The outlook for treating these tumors is often quite good.

Mary Tyler Moore is probably most famous for her roles in sitcoms The Dick Van Dyke Show and later The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She is 74 and an active advocate for juvenile diabetes.

"Love is all around, no need to waste it , You can have a town, why don't you take it, You're gonna make it after all"
