Hydrocortisone
Purpose of Hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone is an over-the-counter medication used to treat skin irritations, inflammation, and rashes due to:
- eczema
- psoriasis
- poison ivy, oak, sumac
- insect bites
- detergents
- jewelry
- cosmetics
- soaps
- seborrheic dermatitis
Hydrocortisone is also used to temporarily relieve external anal and genital itching.
Other uses of this product should be only under the advice and supervision of a doctor.

Hydrocortisone FDA Warning
Hydrocortisone liquid:
For external use only.
When using this product do not get into eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, consult a doctor.
Stop use of this product and do not begin use of any other hydrocortisone product if the condition worsens or if symptoms persist for more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days, unless you have consulted a doctor.
Flammable: Keep away from fire or flame.
Keep out of reach of children.
If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222-1222).
Hydrocortisone ointment and cream:
For external use only.
- for the treatment of diaper rash. Ask a doctor for a recommendation.
- for external genital itching if you have a vaginal discharge. Ask a doctor for a recommendation.
- avoid contact with the eyes
- do not begin use of any other hydrocortisone product unless you have asked a doctor
- for external anal itching do not exceed the recommended daily dosage unless directed by a doctor. In case of bleeding, consult a doctor promptly.
- do not put this product into the rectum by using fingers or any mechanical device or applicator
- condition worsens
- symptoms persist for more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days

Directions
Hydrocortisone liquid:
For adults and children 2 years and older, apply to affected areas 1 to 4 times daily.
Hydrocortisone ointment and cream:
For adults and children 2 years of age and older, apply to affected area not more than 3 to 4 times daily.
In adults with external anal itching, cleanse the affected area with mild soap and warm water and rinse thoroughly (when practical). Gently dry by patting or blotting with toilet tissue or a soft cloth before application of this product.
Pediatric Use
Hydrocortisone liquid:
For children under 2 years of age, talk to a doctor before use.
Hydrocortisone ointment and cream:
For children under 2 years of age, talk to a doctor before use.
In children under 12 years of age with external anal itching, talk to a doctor before use.

Hydrocortisone liquid:
This product is flammable, keep away from fire or flame.
Hydrocortisone ointment:
Store at room temperature between 20°-25°C (68°-77°F).
Hydrocortisone cream:
- Protect from freezing. Avoid excessive heat.
- Do not use if packet is torn, cut or opened.
