Purpose of Cortaid

Cortaid is a non-prescription medication that temporarily relieves minor skin irritations such as itching, inflammation, redness and rashes caused by a variety of conditions.  

The skin can become irritated by a variety of triggers, some of the most common triggers include:

  • eczema
  • insect bites and stings
  • soaps
  • seborrheic dermatitis
  • detergents
  • poison ivy, oak or sumac
  • external anal and genital itching
  • cosmetics
  • jewelry
  • psoriasis

Other uses of this product should only be under the advice and supervision of a doctor.

Active Ingredients

Cortaid 12-Hour Cream, Maximum Strength Cream, and Cooling Spray: hydrocortisone acetate 1%

 

Inactive Ingredients

Cortaid 12-Hour Cream: water, petrolatum, glycerin, mineral oil, ceteareth-6, dimethicone, VP/eicosene copolymer, phenoxyethanol, stearyl alcohol, ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP copolymer, cetyl alcohol, carbomer, edetate disodium, methylparaben, sodium citrate, ethylparaben, citric acid, propylparaben, *sodium hydroxide (*may contain this ingredient)

Cortaid Maximum Strength Cream: aloe barbadensis leaf juice, benzyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, cetearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, citric acid, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone/vinyltrimethylsiloxysilicate crosspolymer, dimethyl MEA, feverfew extract, glycerin, isopropyl myristate, isostearyl neopentanoate, methylparaben, oat kernel extract, PEG-40 stearate, potassium lactate, *sodium hydroxide, water (*may contain this ingredient)

Cortaid Cooling Spray: citric acid, disodium EDTA, glycerin, poloxamer 188, polysorbate 20, SD alcohol 40-B, water

Cortaid FDA Warning

Cortaid is for external use only.

Do not use:

  • if you have vaginal discharge, consult a physician first
  • to treat diaper rash, consult a physician


When using this product:

  • avoid eye contact
  • do not use more than directed unless directed by a physician
  • do not put directly into the rectum by any manner including fingers, device or applicator
  • do not use any other hydrocortisone product unless directed by a physician


Stop use and ask a doctor if:

  • condition worsens
  • symptoms persist for more than 7 days
  • symptoms clear up and occur again within a few days
  • rectal bleeding occurs


Keep out of reach of children.

If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222-1222).
 

Directions

Cortaid 12-Hour Cream:

Adults and children 2 years of age and older: apply to affected area not more than 3 to 4 times daily.

Cortaid Maximum Strength Cream:

  • For itching of skin irritation, inflammation, and rashes:
    • Adults and children 2 years of age and older: apply to affected area not more than 3 to 4 times daily
    • Children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor
  • For external anal and genital itching, adults:
    • When practical, clean the affected area with mild soap and water and rinse thoroughly
    • Gently dry by patting or blotting with toilet tissue or a soft cloth before applying
    • Apply to affected area not more than 3 to 4 times daily
    • Children under 12 years of age: ask a doctor

Cortaid Cooling Spray:

  • Adults and children 2 years of age and older: apply to affected area not more than 3 to 4 times daily.

Pediatric Use

Cortaid 12-Hour Cream:

Children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor.

Cortaid Maximum Strength Cream:

  • For itching of skin irritation, inflammation, and rashes in children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor.
  • For external anal and genital itching, children under 12 years of age: ask a doctor.

Cortaid Cooling Spray:

  • Children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor

Cortaid 12-Hour Cream:

  • Store at room temperature between 20º to 25ºC (68º to 77ºF).
  • See end of carton or tube crimp for lot number and expiration date.

Cortaid Maximum Strength Cream:

Store at room temperature between 20º to 25ºC (68º to 77ºF).

Cortaid Cooling Spray:

  • Store at room temperature between 20º to 25ºC (68º to 77ºF).
  • Protect from freezing.
  • See end of carton or tube crimp for lot number and expiration date.
