New Warnings Added to Lexiva Prescribing Information
New Warnings Added to Lexiva Prescribing Information
GlaxoSmithKline and the FDA have notified healthcare professionals of a potential association between Lexiva (fosamprenavir calcium) and heart attack and elevated cholesterol levels in HIV-infected adults.
GSK has modified the existing "Warnings and Precautions" section of Lexiva's prescribing information to note that increases in cholesterol have occurred with treatment, as well as the importance of lipids management. The drugmaker has also included in this section a recommendation that patients should have triglyceride and cholesterol tests performed before beginning Lexiva therapy and periodically during therapy.
More information about precautions needed with Lexiva appears in the letter the FDA sent to health care providers.
