Generalized Anxiety Disorder Health Center

When their anxiety level is mild, people with GAD can function socially and hold down a job. Although they don’t avoid certain situations as a result of their disorder, people with GAD can have difficulty carrying out the simplest daily activities if their anxiety is severe.

The severity of GAD will vary for each individual case. It is important to talk with your doctor about how your specific case should be handled.

Research shows that GAD often coexists with substance abuse or other conditions associated with stress. Patients with physical symptoms such as insomnia or headaches should also tell their doctors about their feelings of worry and tension. This will help the patient's health care provider to recognize whether the person is suffering from GAD.
