Purpose of Orajel Cold Sore

Orajel Cold Sore is an over-the-counter medication used to treat pain and dryness. It also softens crusts (scabs) associated with cold sores, and fever blisters.

Active Ingredients

Benzocaine 20% and white petrolatum 74.44%

Inactive Ingredients

Cholecalciferol, methylparaben, mineral oil, propylene glycol, propylparaben, prunella vulgaris leaf extract, retinyl palmitate (vitamin A palmitate), tocopherol, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E acetate), water, zea mays (corn) oil

 

Orajel Cold Sore FDA Warning

For external use only.

Allergy Alert: Do not use this product if you have a history of allergy to local anesthetics such as procaine, butacaine, benzocaine or other "caine" anesthetics.

Do not use:

  • more than is directed
  • for more than 7 days unless told to do so by a dentist or doctor

Stop use and ask a doctor if:

  • condition worsens
  • symptoms do not improve in 7 days
  • symptoms clear up and occur again within a few days

Keep out of reach of children.

In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222-1222).

Directions

  • Cut open tip of tube on the score mark.
  • Do not use if tip is cut prior to opening.
  • For adults and children 2 years of age and older apply to affected area no more than 4 times a day.

Pediatric Use

  • Cut open tip of tube on the score mark.
  • Do not use if tip is cut prior to opening.
  • For children under 12 years of age, supervision by an adult is recommended.
  • For children under 2 years of age, consult a physician.

Other Information About Orajel Cold Sore

  • Do not use if product packaging is torn, cut or otherwise damaged.
  • Store at room temperature (between 20° to 25°C or 68° to 77°F) in a cool, dry place.
  • This is a personal care item, and so it should be used by only one person.
