Maca is a Peruvian plant. 

Maca root has been used for centuries in the Andres Mountains in Peru to improve health function and to enhance fertility in humans and animals. 

Maca root is used most often for enhancing energy, metabolism, fertility, mood, and learning, osteoporosis, and treatment of some tumors. Maca root is also used in food. 

Maca has not been proven effective for all of the uses listed above. Maca may be used for other conditions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Side effects of maca are unknown.

No drug interactions have been studied. However, you should tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
