Low Testosterone Health Center

Low testosterone occurs when the male body does not produce enough testosterone. (Women can have a testosterone deficiency as well, but in the context of the condition "Low Testosterone," it is usually symptomatic only in males). The male reproductive organs create most of the body's testosterone, but the adrenal glands, which are located above the kidneys, also produce small amounts of the male sex hormone.

Having lower levels of testosterone can cause symptoms that can lead to other health complications. Erectile dysfunction can be caused by low levels of testosterone. However, erectile dysfunction can also be caused by a number of other conditions, so it can be difficult to trace it back to low testosterone.

Other signs of low testosterone may include a decreased sex drive, depressed mood and decreased energy level, reduced bone strength and decreased muscle mass with increased fat gain.
