Alka-Seltzer Plus Day Severe Cold plus Flu is an over the counter medication used to relieve symptoms due to a cold or flu, including minor aches and pains, headache, sore throat, cough, nasal congestion, sinus congestion and pressure,  helps loosen phlegm (mucus) and temporarily reduces fever.

It is a single product containing 4 products: acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine.

Acetaminophen is in a class of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers), these work by changing the way the body senses pain and by cooling the body. Dextromethorphan is in a class of medications called cough suppressants. It works by decreasing activity in the part of the brain that causes coughing. Guaifenesin is in a class of medications called expectorants. It works by thinning the mucus in the air passages to make it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways. Phenylephrine is in a class of medications called nasal decongestants. It works by reducing swelling of the blood vessels in the nasal passages. 

This medication comes in powder packets that are dissolved in 8 oz. hot water then sip while hot within 10-15 minutes. Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, and lightheadedness.
