Its no secret that Madonna has arms that would make Michelle Obama jealous and Gwyneth Paltrow has one of the trimmest waists in the entertainment industry. And now how they got them is no secret either -- The Tracy Anderson Method. Tracy Anderson, a personal trainer to the Hollywood stars and a former professional dancer, has done her research and some experimenting with various exercises that when coupled together produce sleek results. Then she threw all that knowledge into a set of 3 DVDs. But could the answer to shedding a few pounds and toning your whole body really be found in a set of DVDs? Tracy claims to do it with a mat workout, a dance/cardio workout and a post-pregnancy workout. The dance moves combined with sculpting exercises is the secret to achieving that toned look, her clients say. The mat workout strengthens and tones muscles by performing a lot of repetitions using light weights - were talking 3 pounds or less. Tracy starts with leg exercises and quickly moves on to the arms and then abs. She hones in on the accessory muscles - or the small muscle groups. The dance/cardio workout is a bit quick and may take a few extra minutes for someone with little coordination to pick up. But even if your techniques a little rough around the edges, youll still improve cardiovascular fitness. Make sure you have at least a 10-foot by 10-foot open space. And remember to consider your bodys unique quirks before you dive in. This high-powered workout may not be best for people with a history of leg or foot joint, tendon or ligament problems. Each of Tracy Andersons DVDs is approximately one hour. For optimal results its best to combine the mat and cardio workouts into one session. The Tracy Anderson Method is often compared to Pilates, but there are a few key differences. For example, Pilates zones in on strengthening the core and building flexible muscles, while Tracys program focuses on total-body toning. Her routines are designed to increase strength while building long, lean muscles and to improve flexibility and balance. Stars such as Emily Blunt say theyve exchanged monotonous gym sessions for Tracys method, which is now a way of life. And Edie Falco has discovered muscles in her body that she never knew existed. As with many popular workout DVDs, most of this methods benefits have yet to be clinically proven. However, it is an inexpensive option, especially when compared to hiring a personal trainer.
