Researchers at the Australian Institute of Sport found that having caffeine before a workout reduces the feeling of fatigue. And drinking a cup of caffeinated coffee triggers the muscles to start using fat as an energy source, rather than carbohydrate sugars. So it's not surprising that the International Olympic Committee lists caffeine as a banned substance.
