NBA Stars Who Give Back
The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation provides resources to needy children and families around the world. Selecting from local and global organizations, Nowitzki’s foundation gives out annual grants that focus on specific efforts. In 2012, the foundation gave support to Habitat for Humanity, which used the funds to build homes and provide HIV education and health and hygiene support to families in Senegal, Malawi and Uganda. Recently, Nowitzki pledged to donate $20 for every two points made by the Dallas Mavericks over a month in an effort to support research for a rare and debilitating disorder known as Hunter syndrome.
