Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash is an over-the-counter drug product used to treat acne. Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash belongs to a group of drug products called salicylic acid washes. Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash Precautions

Serious side effects have been reported with Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash including the following:

  • severe skin dryness, redness, and/or peeling. Some patients may be hypersensitive to the effects of products like Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash. If you experience severe skin dryness, redness, and/or peeling, discontinue use immediately and consult with your physician and/or pharmacist about alternate treatment options.

Do not take Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash if you:

  • are allergic to Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash or to any of its ingredients 
  • have any open wounds, lesions, or burns

Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash and Pregnancy

The FDA categorizes medications based on safety for use during pregnancy. Five categories - A, B, C, D, and X, are used to classify the possible risks to an unborn baby when a medication is taken during pregnancy.

Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash has not yet been evaluated by the FDA for safety in use during pregnancy.

Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash and Lactation

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

It is not known if Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash crosses into human milk. Because many medications can cross into human milk and because of the possibility for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants with use of this medication, a choice should be made whether to stop nursing or stop the use of this medication. Your doctor and you will decide if the benefits outweigh the risk of using Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash.

Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash Usage

Use Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash exactly as prescribed or directed on the packaging.

Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash comes in a foaming liquid form dispensed from a pump bottle and is typically applied once in the morning and once again at night.

Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash is for external use only. Skin irritation and dryness is most likely to occur if you use another topical acne medication at the same time; if irritation occurs, only use one topical acne medication at a time.

Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water.

Because excessive drying of the skin may occur, start with one application daily, then gradually increase to two or three times daily if needed or as directed by a doctor; if bothersome dryness or peeling occurs, reduce application to once a day or every other day.

To use Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash:

  1. Moisten skin with warm water and dispense two full pumps into the palm of your hand
  2. Apply by gently massaging over the entire affected area
  3. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry

If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash at the same time.

Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash Dosage

Use this product exactly as prescribed by your doctor or as directed on the packaging.

The dose your doctor recommends may be based on the following:

  • the condition being treated
  • other medical conditions you have
  • other medications you are taking
  • how you respond to this medication
  • your age

The recommended dose of Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash for the treatment of acne is two pumps applied to the entire affected area twice daily.

If you take too much Skinmedica Purifying Foaming Wash, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.
