Robert J. Canter, MD, MAS, FACS

Dr. Canter is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the UC Davis School of Medicine. He is a surgical oncologist specializing in the multimodality management of patients with soft tissue sarcoma.

Dr. Canter graduated from Princeton University and then earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. His academic honors include magna cum laude and alpha omega alpha. He completed his training in general surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania followed by a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

At UC Davis, Dr. Canter is chair of the Sarcoma Tumor and Multidisciplinary Working Group and chair of the Sarcoma Innovation Group. He also serves on the Leadership committee of the Association for Academic Surgery. He has authored or co-authored 55 peer-reviewed publications. His grant support includes UC Davis Mentored Clinical Research Training Program (earning him a Masters in Applied Study), K12 Oncology Career Development Award, Sarcoma Foundation of America, and UC Cancer Research Coordinating Committee.
