Benjamin Joel Downie, MD

Benjamin Joel Downie, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician and board-certified, fellowship-trained hematologist-oncologist. Dr. Downie's special interest is in benign and malignant hematology, as well as general oncology. Dr. Downie's true passion lies in taking care of patients.

Dr. Downie earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed a residency and internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Internal Medicine Program. Dr. Downie performed a Hematology and Oncology Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Hematology and Oncology.

Dr. Downie is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the William E. Dismukes Award for Outstanding Senior Resident and Award of Excellence in Medicine for Best R-3 ACP In-Training Exam from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital Department of Medicine; C. Glenn Cobbs Award for Excellence from Birmingham VA Medical Center; Outstanding Performance in 2nd Year Medical Studies from Indiana University School of Medicine; Outstanding Performance 1st year Medical Studies from Indiana University School of Medicine; Phi Beta Kappa at Hope College in Michigan; and Valedictorian of Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Dr. Downie is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, and American Society of Hematology. His research is published in several peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Downie and his wife enjoy living in Texas. In his spare time, Dr. Downie enjoys time as a musician and traveling, reading, running marathons, and tennis.
