Gripe water is a single product containing 3 natural medicines: ginger, fennel, and chamomile. Gripe water also contains sodium bicarbonate and a sweetener, such as sugar or agave.

Gripe water is used most often for colic (excessive crying in an otherwise healthy baby).

Gripe water is thought to work mainly by providing pain relief through its sweet taste. The taste of sucrose (sugar) has been shown to have a significant calming effect on newborns.

There are no reports of significant side effects with gripe water.
