Lonhala Magnair is a prescription medication used for maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Lonhala Magnair belongs to a group of drugs called anticholinergics. These work by relaxing and opening the air passages to the lungs to make breathing easier.

This medication comes in solution form for inhalation and is taken twice a day.

Lonhala Magnair Precautions

Serious side effects have been reported with Lonhala Magnair including the following:

  • difficulty breathing or worsening of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) when used in patients with deteriorating or a life-threatening episode of COPD. Tell your healthcare provider if Lonhala Magnair does not help with COPD symptoms or if your rescue inhaler does not work as well or if you have to use it more often than normal.
  • sudden shortness of breath immediately after use of Lonhala Magnair. Sudden shortness of breath may be life-threatening. If you have sudden breathing problems immediately after inhaling your medicine, stop taking Lonhala Magnair and call your healthcare provider or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.
  • hypersensitivity (severe allergic reaction). Tell your healthcare provider about any signs or symptoms of hypersensitivity, including chest pain, rash, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, arms, or legs.
  • new or worsened eye problems including acute narrow-angle glaucoma. Acute narrow-angle glaucoma can cause permanent loss of vision if not treated. Symptoms of acute narrow-angle glaucoma may include eye pain or discomfort, nausea or vomiting, blurred vision, red eyes, or seeing halos or bright colors around lights.
  • new or worsened urinary retention. People who use Lonhala Magnair may develop new or worse urinary retention. Urinary retention can be caused by a blockage in your bladder. Urinary retention can also happen in men who have a larger than normal prostate. Symptoms of urinary retention may include difficulty urinating, painful urination, urinating frequently, or urination in a weak stream or drips.

Lonhala Magnair is not used to treat sudden symptoms of COPD. Always have a short-acting beta-agonist medicine (rescue inhaler) with you to treat sudden symptoms of COPD. If you do not have a rescue inhaler, contact your healthcare provider to have one prescribed for you.

Do not take Lonhala Magnair if you are allergic to Lonhala Magnair or to any of its ingredients.

Lonhala Magnair Food Interactions

Medications can interact with certain foods. In some cases, this may be harmful and your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods. In the case of Lonhala Magnair, there are no specific foods that you must exclude from your diet when receiving this medication.

Before taking Lonhala Magnair, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:

  • are allergic to Lonhala Magnair or to any of its ingredients
  • have kidney problems
  • have eye problems such as glaucoma
  • have any bladder or prostate problems or problems passing urine
  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Lonhala Magnair and Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

There are no well-done studies that have been done in humans with Lonhala Magnair. In animal studies, pregnant animals were given this medication, and the babies did not show any medical issues related to this medication. This medication may be used if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the unborn child.

Lonhala Magnair and Lactation

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

It is not known if Lonhala Magnair crosses into human milk. Because many medications can cross into human milk and because of the possibility for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants with use of this medication, a choice should be made whether to stop nursing or stop the use of this medication. Your doctor and you will decide if the benefits outweigh the risk of using Lonhala Magnair.

Lonhala Magnair Usage

Take Lonhala Magnair exactly as prescribed. Lonhala Magnair consists of both the Magnair nebulizer system and the medicine Lonhala. 

Lonhala Magnair comes in solution form for inhalation and is taken twice a day (1 vial in the morning and 1 vial in the evening) using the Magnair nebulizer.

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of Lonhala Magnair at the same time.

Lonhala Magnair Dosage

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully.

The recommended dose of Lonhala Magnair for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is 25 mcg twice daily.

Lonhala Magnair Overdose

If you take too much Lonhala Magnair, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.

Other Requirements

  • Lonhala vials should only be used with the Magnair device only.
  • Store Lonhala Magnair at room temperature between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C).
  • Store Lonhala Magnair in the protective foil pouch.
  • After opening the protective foil pouch, unused Lonhala vials should be returned to and stored the opened foil pouch. Vials from an opened pouch need to be used within 7 days. Discard vials if not used within 7 days.
  • Opened vials of Lonhala should be used immediately and thrown away right after used. 
  • Keep this and all medicines out of the reach of children.
