In the United States, infestation with head lice is most common among young children attending day care, elementary schoolchildren, and the individuals at home living with the infested children.

Although no concrete data on the number of people in the U.S. infested by lice each year exists, according to the CDC, an estimated 6 to 12 million infestations occur each year in the United States among children 3 to 11 years of age.
