PLAC Test predicts a patient’s risk of future coronary heart disease (CHD) events, such as heart attacks.

PLAC test is approved for use in all adults with no history of heart disease. However, studies show the test is better at predicting risk in women, particularly black women.

The PLAC measures a specific marker, Lipoprotein-associated Phospholipase A2, (Lp-PLA2), which is critical in the buildup of plaque in the arteries that supply blood to the heart.

Technique

Blood Test

Preparation

Does not require fasting.

No need to withhold any medications before taking PLAC test, unless directed by your doctor to do so.

What the results mean

  • Lp-PLA2 level > 225 nanomoles per minute per milliliter (nmol/min/mL) are at increased risk for a CHD event.
  • Lp-PLA2 level < 225 nanomoles per minute per milliliter (nmol/min/mL) are at decreased risk for a CHD event.
