Most doctors suggest that you use acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) to help lower fever. It's important to remember that a fever does not need to come all the way down to normal to feel better, most people start feeling better when temperature drops by 1 degree.

Over-the-counter cold medicine can help alleviate some symptoms of influenza and cough drops can help with a sore throat.

If you have the flu, you will need lots of rest and plenty of liquids. Remember, don't smoke or drink alcohol while you are sick.
