Potato chips recalled for undeclared milk

Barrel O' Fun Snack Foods has issued a voluntary recall of potato chips due to undeclared milk protein that could cause severe allergic reactions to people with a milk sensitivity.

Barrel O’ Fun Snack Foods Co. of Perham, MN is recalling Valu Time Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips, 5 oz., UPC Code 11225-03388 as the product contains undeclared milk protein. People with allergies or severe sensitivity to milk protein may be at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

All “Best By” dates before 05 MAY 2011 are affected by this voluntary recall. The “Best By” date is found printed on the front of the bag. The “Best By” date appears in the format “DD MMM YYYY” (example: 23 MAR 2011).

The Valu Time Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips subject to this recall were sold through distribution centers located in Virginia, Nebraska and Kansas. These distribution centers service retail grocery stores throughout United States.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after an evaluation of consumer packaging. It was discovered that product containing whey (a milk allergen) was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk.

Consumers who have purchased Valu Time Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips may return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with any questions may contact Barrel O’ Fun at 1-800-346-4910 (7am-5pm CST Monday-Friday).
