Ecotrin

Ecotrin is an over-the-counter medication used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains due to:

• headache
• muscle aches
• minor arthritis pain
• the common cold
• toothache
• menstrual cramps and pain

Your doctor may recommend Ecotrin for a different reason as well.

Ecotrin: aspirin 81 mg

Ecotrin Regular Strength: aspirin 325 mg

Reye’s syndrome: Children and teenagers who have or are recovering from chicken pox or flu-like symptoms should not use this product. When using this product, if changes in behavior with nausea and vomiting occur, consult a doctor because these symptoms could be an early sign of Reye's syndrome, a rare but serious illness.

Allergy alert: Ecotrin may cause a severe allergic reaction which may include:

• hives
• facial swelling
• asthma (wheezing)
• shock

Stomach bleeding warning: This product contains a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which may cause stomach bleeding. The chance is higher if you:

• are older than 60 years of age
• have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding problems
• take a blood thinner(anticoagulant) or steroid medication
• take other NSAID medications
• drink more than 3 alcoholic drinks a day
• fail to take the medication as directed

Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to aspirin or any other pain reliever/fever reducer.

Consult a physician before use if:

• stomach bleeding warnings applies to you
• you have a history of stomach problems, such as heartburn
• you have high blood pressure, heart disease, liver cirrhosis, or kidney disease
• you are taking a diuretic
• you have asthma

Stop use and consult a physician if:

• an allergic reaction occurs, seek medical attention immediately 
• you experience any of the following signs of stomach bleeding:
  • feel faint
  • vomit blood
  • have bloody or black stools
  • have stomach pain that does not get better
• ringing in the ears or loss of hearing occurs
• painful area is red or swollen
• your pain lasts for more than 10 days
• any new symptoms appear

These could be signs of a serious condition.

If pregnant or breastfeeding consult a physician before use.  It is especially important to not use Ecotrin during the last 3 months of pregnancy unless under a physician's direct supervision.  Ecotrin use in the last 3 months of pregnancy is associated with a higher risk of complications for the unborn child as well as during labor and delivery.

Keep out of reach of children.

In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222-1222). Quick medical attention is critical for adults as well as for children even if you do not notice any signs or symptoms.

Ecotrin:

• For adults and children 12 years of age and over, take 4-8 tablets every 4 hours while symptoms persist.
• Drink a full glass of water with each dose.
• Do not take more than 48 tablets in 24 hours unless directed by a physician.

Ecotrin Regular Strength:

• For adults and children 12 years of age and over, take 1-2 tablets every 4 hours while symptoms persist.

• Drink a full glass of water with each dose.
• Do not take more than 12 tablets in 24 hours unless directed by a physician.

Ecotrin and Ecotrin Regular Strength:

For children under 12 years of age, talk to a physician before using Ecotrin.

• Tamper-evident: do not use if printed inner-seal beneath cap is missing or broken.
• Store at or below room temperature (25°C/77°F) in a cool, dry place.
