Tooth Decay:

  • Flouride toothpaste can help prevent tooth decay. Speak to your dentist about fluoride treatments and other fluoride gels or mouth rinses to use at home.

Gum Disease:

  • Controlling the infection is the primary goal when treating gum diseases. The type of treatment will vary, depending on the extent of the gum disease. Any type of treatment requires that the patient keep up good oral hygiene practices at home. Your dentist or health care provider may also ask you to change certain behaviors that may be affecting your oral hygiene such as smoking and tobacco use.

Dry Mouth:

  • Once your dentist determines the cause of your dry mouth, he or she can offer different treatment options such as medication or daily oral hygiene practices. These self-care steps include drinking plenty of water, chewing sugarless gum, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol.  Good oral care at home and regular dental check-ups will help keep your mouth healthy.

Oral Cancer:

  • Patients with oral cancer can be treated with surgery, radiation therapy, or a combination of both treatments. Another possible treatment option is targeted therapy, which uses medications or other substances to attack specific cancer cells.
  • The choice of treatment depends on the patient’s general health, where in the mouth and throat the cancer began, size of the tumor, and whether the cancer has spread.
