Purpose of DayQuil

Dayquil Cough is an over-the-counter medication used to temporarily treat cough and to help loosen phlegm (mucus).

Citric Acid, D&C Yellow No. 10, FD&C Yellow No. 6, Flavor, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Polyethylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, Saccharin Sodium, Sodium Citrate

DayQuil FDA Warning

Do not use if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains an MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Ask a doctor before use if you have:
  • Persistent or chronic cough that occurs with smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema
  • A cough that occurs with too much phlegm (mucus)
  • A sodium-restricted diet

When using this product, do not use more than directed.

Stop use and ask a doctor if cough lasts more than 7 days, comes back, or occurs with fever, rash, or headache that lasts. These could be signs of a serious condition.

If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of accidental overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222-1222).

Tamper evident: Do not use if printed shrinkband is missing or broken.

Directions

For accurate dosing, use dosing cup.

For adults and children 12 years and over, take 30 mL (2 TBSP) every 6-8 hours.

Pediatric Use

For accurate dosing, use dosing cup.

For children over 12 years of age, see adult dosing.

For children 6 to under 12 years, take 15 mL (1 TBSP) every 6-8 hours.

For children 4 to under 6 years, consult a physician before use.

For children under 4 years, do not use.

Other Information About DayQuil

  • Each tablespoon contains 15 mg of sodium.
  • Store at room temperature.
