Claritin
Purpose of Claritin
Claritin is a non-prescription antihistamine medication that is used to treat hay fever (aka seasonal allergies) and upper respiratory allergies. Symptoms of allergies include sneezing, runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, and itching in the nose and throat.
Upper respiratory allergies are the result of breathing in allergens. Allergens are anything that causes an allergic reaction. Trees, weeds, grasses and fungus all release allergens in the form of tiny pollen grains. When the body detects a foreign invader, the body releases histamine. Histamine is responsible for all upper respiratory symptoms, and Claritin works by blocking the negative effects of histamine. This helps temporarily relieve allergy symptoms.
