Purpose of Advil Children's Relief

Advil children's relief products are over-the-counter medications used to treat pain and to reduce fever.

Active Ingredients

Infants’ Advil Drops: ibuprofen 50 mg (in each 1.25 mL)

Children’s Advil Suspension: ibuprofen 100 mg (in each 5 mL)

Junior Strength Advil Chewables: ibuprofen 100 mg

Junior Strength Advil Tablets: ibuprofen 100 mg

Advil Children's Relief FDA Warning

Allergy alert: Advil may cause a severe allergic reaction, especially in people allergic to aspirin. Symptoms may include:

  • hives
  • facial swelling
  • asthma (wheezing)
  • shock
  • skin reddening
  • rash
  • blisters

If allergic reaction occurs, stop use and seek medical help right away.

Stomach bleeding warning: This product contains a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which may cause stomach bleeding. The chance is higher if the child:

  • has a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding problems
  • takes a blood thinner (anticoagulant) or steroid medication
  • takes other prescription or non-prescription NSAID medications
    • if you are unsure if the child is taking an NSAID, consult a physician or pharmacist
  • fails to take the medication as directed

Sore throat warning: Severe or persistent sore throat or sore throat accompanied by high fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting may be serious. Talk to your physician immediately.

Do not use more than 2 days or administer to children under the age of 3 years (for Children's Advil and Junior Strength Advil products).

Do not use:

  • if you have ever had an allergic reaction to aspirin or any other pain reliever/fever reducer
  • right before or after heart surgery

Consult a physician before use if:

  • stomach bleeding warning applies to the child
  • the child has not been drinking fluids
  • the child has lost a lot of fluids due to vomiting or diarrhea
  • the child has liver disease, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, history of stomach bleeding/ulcers, any stomach problem including heartburn, high blood pressure, heart disease or asthma
  • the child is taking a diuretic
  • the child has problems or serious side effects from taking pain relievers or fever reducers
  • the child is taking any other drug containing an NSAID (prescription or nonprescription)
  • the child is taking a blood thinning (anticoagulant) or steroid drug
  • the child is taking any other drug
  • the child is under a doctor’s care for any serious condition

When using this product:

  • take with food or milk if upset stomach occurs.
  • the risk of heart attack or stroke may increase if you use more than directed or for longer than directed.

Stop use and consult a physician if:

  • an allergic reaction occurs, seek medical attention immediately
  • the child experience any of the following signs of stomach bleeding:
    • feel faint
    • vomit blood
    • have bloody or black stools
    • have stomach pain that does not get better
  • ringing in the ears or loss of hearing occurs
  • painful area is red or swollen
  • child does not get any relief within the first day (24 hours) of treatment
  • fever or pain gets worse or lasts more than 3 days
  • any new symptoms appear
  • you have difficulty swallowing
  • if it feels like the tablet/capsule is stuck in your throat

These could be signs of a serious condition.

Keep out of reach of children.

In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222-1222). Quick medical attention is critical for adults as well as for children even if you do not notice any signs or symptoms.
